Nyi Ageng Serang born with the original name Raden Ajeng (RA) Kustiyah Wulaningsih Endhi Retno. She is a daughter of Prince Natapraja, ruler of the Serang, a remote area in Mataram kingdom in Central Java.
Prince Sultan Natapraja are warlords who bergeral lane I Panembahan Serang. RA Kustiyah since childhood had come with his father to fight against the Dutch.
After his father died because of illness. RA Kustiyah replaced the father in the lord sebagai Serang and finally he was called Nyi Ageng Serang.
During the lead, Nyi Ageng Serang known to be close to people. He always helped kesegsaraan people by distributing food.
When the war broke out Diponegoro, and their son Nyi Ageng SerangPak Raden Mas-pack and Nataprajan troops also fought against the Dutch. Nyi Ageng fought and led his troops from the litter because he is already achieving 73 years. After 3 years of helping Diponegoro, Nyi Ageng Serang resigned from the battlefield and were replaced by Pak-Pak Raden law.
Until his death Nyi Ageng Serang, Serang area remain as independent regions.
Nyi Ageng Serang is one of the descendant of Sunan Kalijaga. In addition, Nyi Ageng Serang have a grandson who is also a national hero Ki Hajar Dewantara.
Nyi Ageng Serang is also known by the public Kulonprogo .. because Nyi Ageng Serang immortalized and remembered with a statue made in the province located on the road perlimaan .. and the icons used by residents KulonProgo
The Government confirmed Nyi Ageng Serang as national hero by Presidential Decree No. RI 084/TK/1974
